Posted by Matthew on 08-16-05 @ 9:00 PM - 19 comments
In a recent interview with Empire Online, Frances de la Tour talked about her role as Madame Maxime in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. She said, " She´s a French giantess – or half giantess, so of course when she meets Hagrid, they are both half giants, so there´s a frisson. There´s a lot of romance ( in the film). They fall in love, and then, it´s really lovely. Hagrid is… again you see a tenderness in him… it´s lovely, really lovely to do."

And in regard to the massive scale of the movie: " That was amazing, because it wasn´t anything like the concentrated stuff that was going on here - because of the nature of it. I had to play a giant, and I´m not allowed to tell you how they do that. So the whole technical process is completely different; you´d walk on set, and there´d be five hundred people on set, or at least three hundred; it´s a world of its own....

" The difficult thing was the green screen acting, which I know nobody, no actor likes doing, because you haven´t got the other actor to even act with, and that I found really hard. I mean, you don´t know if you´re doing too much or too little, or… it really is a stick with a ping pong ball."

New high-resolution picture from GOF
Posted by Matthew on 08-16-05 @ 6:03 PM - 18 comments
Warner Bros. kindly passed along a high-resolution version of the new picture from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire that was recently published in " Entertainment Weekly." Thanks to them!

We have the trailer!
Posted by Matthew on 08-16-05 @ 10:52 AM - 248 comments
Okay, so it´s a low quality version. And as Louise said in the comments yesterday, it doesn´t have that much new footage. But you all have been clamoring like none other for this video, so here you are, courtesy of our amazing forums moderator Louise ( Dana_Scully) . .. and her nephew, who woke her up, and her mom, who taped it, and, well, this video is courtesy of almost her entire family.

And P.S.: Dumbledore´s voiceover is pretty much the coolest thing since sliced bread.

Update from WB: WB has confirmed that this is the international teaser trailer, and because it is almost exactly the same as their domestic teaser trailer, it will not be added to the official site nor will a high-resolution version be released.

New interview with James and Oliver Phelps
Posted by Matthew on 08-15-05 @ 10:26 AM - 27 comments
James and Oliver Phelps ( the Weasley twins) talked with HP fansite SnitchSeeker at CauldronCon over the weekend, and a transcript of the interview is now online.

Oliver said that " [t]he fourth film is really a lot different then the other films that have come out. The director, Mike Newell, is an English director and it’s got a lot more of an English feel to it. So we could relate to the part a lot more." James said that Newell is " very, very hands on," and that " Goblet of Fire has to be my favorite so far."

Are there any scenes you like filming most?
Oliver: Either the Yule Ball or the Quidditch World Cup.
James: *agrees* The Yule Ball. " …we all had to actually learn how to waltz." The guys were all like *groans* and the girls were all like *makes a cheerful face* There were professional dancers to teach us and the guys all stood in the back of the hall not wanting to choose a partner. Eventually we all got the hang of it and we practiced between sets.

Check out the full interview at SnitchSeeker.

German ´Half-Blood Prince´ cover chosen
Posted by Matthew on 08-15-05 @ 10:06 AM - 12 comments
After more than 180,000 votes were cast on the official German Harry Potter website, the cover of the German translation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been chosen. An overwhelming majority of readers voted for the cover shown on the left, which is good for German fans, as the other cover had a major spoiler on it.

Full Goblet of Fire trailer airs in UK
Posted by Matthew on 08-15-05 @ 9:30 AM - 498 comments
A number of our British readers have e-mailed in saying that the full trailer for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire aired on GMTV this morning. It was shown without any voiceovers - English or Dutch - and included some new scenes as well. If anyone managed to capture it, please let us know - thanks!

New Yule Ball footage from GOF!
Posted by Matthew on 08-14-05 @ 4:13 PM - 121 comments
Dutch television show " Shownieuws" ( on channel SBS6 in the Netherlands) aired more new footage from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire today, including our first look at the Yule Ball! Frank of Dutch HP fansite Avada Kedavra was kind enough to pass along a video of the broadcast.

A good deal of it was identical to what we saw on " Extra" on Friday evening, but four new scenes were shown as well. Videos of those scenes can be downloaded below:

Clip 1 ( .6 MB): Goblet of Fire emitting hot pink flames, new quote from Dumbledore at the Halloween Feast, and a new shot of Harry entering the stadium just before the First Task.

Clip 2 ( .4 MB): Yule Ball goodness!

Clip 3 ( .3 MB): New shot of the Beauxbatons´ entrance

A batch of screenshots of the new scenes can be viewed here. Thanks again to Frank!

07-07-07 book seven release date theory
Posted by Matthew on 08-14-05 @ 1:12 AM - 112 comments
This isn´t exactly news, but a reader sent this in and the possibility is simply too cool to ignore. JKR said at the cub reporters´ press conference last month that she´s shooting for a 2007 release of book seven. Like the first six books, it´s bound to be released in the summer . .. and seeing as seven is the most magically powerful number, just how awesome would it be if the book was released on Saturday, July 7, 2007? ( Which, by the way, is 07-07-07.)

Not to mention that it´ll also be book seven, year seven, and that there are seven Horcruxes.

And another cool tidbit that we completely missed: this month´s Wizard of the Month at JKR.com is Bridget Wenlock, who was the " first to establish the magical properties of the number seven." Let´s see . .. that´s seven characters in her first name, and seven in her last!

I´m sure you all can come up with many more Harry Potter connections to the number seven, but I´ll conclude this post with a quote from reader Rudy, who came up with the idea: " Wouldn´t we all be in seventh heaven if the book was released on 07-07-07?"
