We are going to tell you a very short summary of the expedition :

Lewis and Clark are two explorers, committed by Thomas Jefferson, the american president, to cross America. They left Saint-Louis on the 14th may, 1804. They were 33 members. Then, they joined Lewis in the Missouri. They crossed over the current cities Kansas City (Missouri) and Omaha.(Nebraska). Then they passed through the Rocky Mountains.They descended the cleawater River, then the Snake one and then the Columbia. They arrived on the west coast in the end of 1805.

Some stories :

The state give them only 2500$ for the trip.

They had big troubles with Indians :

Once, one of their horses disappeared, and so they thought it was Indians and so they have troubles. The indians asked for gifts and gold to allow white people to cross their territorry. And so many times they were going to fight but they cancelled it at the last minute !

And an other in the winter of 1804–05, an indian chief asked Lewis and Clark to give him a boat to go through their territory. A fight was going to begin but it didn't at the end because they didn't want to fight.

But Indians were very helpful for Americans because this thankes to them that they didn't get lost or starve to death (= mort de faim)
