pour les noobs extreme " c´est eux qui le disent" ^^
People are struggling with the new HaloNMP Map installation so I wrote up this tutorial with my findings.
Basicly, people are having problems applying the patch and when they open it up in SparkEdit, the maps look the same. Well, the reason why I started with this first is because this is what got me until I noticed something. The map I was patching ( BloodGulch) with the PPF remained the same no matter how many different angles I tackled it with the patch. The reason for this was because the map was actually built in the AIR on Bloodgulch. I kept struggling with this patch and it was working fine, but I did not notice that high up in the air was 3 different parts of a map that were made. So basicly I wasted all this time because a stroke of bad luck in me not seeing the subtle changes high up in the air due to SparkEdit´s limited draw distance ( no complaining).
Anyways, now that I noticed this, everything worked fine following these steps.
1: Turn on your xbox and FTP into it by using something like SmartFTP or whatnot.
2: Look in the Y, X or Z drive for files like cache001.map, cache002.map..and what so on. Remove them all.
3: Turn on Halo, ( and for the remainder of the tutorial, I will refer to Bloodgulch).
4: Load up bloodgulch in Multiplayer and shoot around the stage for a few seconds.
5: Go back to your modded dashboard and FTP back into the same directory you deleted the cache001.map, cache002.map, etc files.
6: There should now be files back again ( cache001.map, cache002.map, etc). The last map you played is the highest map number over cache002.map. So basicly, if you did what happened in the first few steps, the correct map number should be cache003.map).
7: Copy cache003.map to a directory on your computer. Open up PPF-O-Matic and in the ISO field click the little floppy disk icon to OPEN the . map file ( Make sure the file-type show´s as " All Files"). Next, below the ISO field, is the PPF Field. Click the Floppy Disk icon and navigate to the directory of the PPF ( map mod) you downloaded. Next hit APPLY. It should say it was Successful. Then hit OK and close out of PPF-O-Matic.
8: Next open up SparkEdit ( make SURE is is V3.02 by clicking on Help and About. I have personally tried V3.01 and it not work for some reason, can not gurantee any other version but 3.02 personally). Go to File, and " Open Cach File..." Navigate to the cache003.map file you just ran PPF-O-Matic on. Wait until it opens ( sometimes I get different results. Sometimes it shows it opening all the bitmap image file names in the status box at the bottom of the screen ( the white area that says SparkEdit Version 3.02..etc)). You may notice the map changed, or you may not.... just continue. Next go to File and " Save Map as Compressed". Save it as the needed file name ( for this tutorial, I will choose bloodgulch.map). After it is done saving ( does not give a complete message...just stops, way I knew it was done is I checked the file size of the map..if it is over 20MB, it should be done). Take this map that was just saved as compressed and save it to the ´maps´ directory on your xbox for the Halo game. I then rebooted my Xbox ( probably not needed, but I am a firm believer in the power of a reboot
. Next I turned on my Xbox and loaded up Halo. I went into bloodgulch in the actual halo game and BINGO, it worked!
