Sega is breathing life into its Dreamcast games console one last time. The company has announced plans to put on sale a special edition of the device in September as it attempts to dispose of remaining consoles.
The Dreamcast R7 will go on sale in Japan on September 6 and be priced at $79, according to the company. There is no difference between the R7 model and the basic Dreamcast on sale at present except for the case, which is painted black and has an R7 logo. The current model has a white case.
Sega decided to sell its remaining inventories because many users wanted the chance to own such a special edition console, says Sega spokesperson Yusuke Suai.
Sega announced plans to halt production of the Dreamcast in February this year and has been trying to dispose of remaining inventories since that time. It slashed the price of the console just two days after disclosing plans to discontinue the console.
