It was an RPG that i have fond memories of, but i was very young. I've looked through lists but can't find it.
It felt a little bit like Morrowind (in the item collection/rpg elements), but it was isometric, you looked down on the characters. The combat was semi-turn based. For some reason, "rings" come to mind when thinking about it. It had elements of magic.
I remember it being quite open ended, you could take items from boxes, etc around the world. Very customizable.
Here a list of all rpg released on the PlayStation 2 system

Isn't the game that you're talking about one of the Wild Arms saga released on Ps2 ? Or was it Final Fantasy XII which was very customisable ?
Did find the game that you're talking about ? I'm curious about it as a fan of the PlayStation 2.
