The topic of my presentation is Manhattan's Chinatown.

Let’s start with the location of Chinatown. Manhattan’s Chinatown is located in Downtown Manhattan, in New York City, at the east of Tribeca and at the south of Little Italy. It’s located between Kenmore Street and Delancey Street on the north, East Street and Worth street on the south, Allen Street to the east, and Broadway to the west.

Now, let’s move on to the history of Chinatown. From the 19th century, more Chinese arrived in the United States, especially on the Pacific coast at the time of the Gold Rush in the 1840s and 1850s. In 1870, 200 Chinese worked in New York City and, in 1882, Chinese population went up to 2,000 inhabitants. After changing laws on emigration in 1965, which allowed a greater number of Asian immigrants, the population of Chinatown exploded and the neighborhood has expanded, especially in the north. Confucius Plaza, a 44-story residential tower, allowed to absorb its demographic expansion in 1976. Whereas, this building which was reserved for a modest population is mostly occupied by rich Chinese. This situation leads to the development of another Chinatown in Queens.

Finally, let’s move on to the landmarks of Chinatown. Today, Chinatown is an enjoyed tourist destination because of its more than 200 Chinese restaurants, fish markets, Chinese grocery stores and jewelers. The most famous Chinatown’s landmarks are the Museum of Chinese in the Americas which traces the history of Chinese immigration, the Mayana Buddhist temple and the Kim Lau Memorial Arch to the memory of the Chinese Americans who died in Second World War.

To conclude, Chinatown is the oldest and the most famous Chinatown outside of Asia and the second largest of the United States after San Francisco’s Chinatown. With a population estimated from 150 000 to 300 000 inhabitants, Chinatown is the primary destination for Chinese immigrants.

Now, let’s see if you can answer a few questions about my presentation:
-How many inhabitants are there?
The population is estimated from 150 000 to 300 000 inhabitants.
-What is the name of the residential tower which founded in 1976?
Its name is Confucius Plaza.
-How many Chinese restaurants are there?
There are 200 Chinese restaurants.
