[Just looked at iteration one of the gameplay and it's got a cool feel out of the gate. Beams coming from each tentacle that coalesce over a second. It is a bit hard to describe, but it looks pretty neat and should be in your hands in a few weeks]

Hi everyone. I'm excited to talk to you a little about the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Warframe and give you a quick preview for some up-coming improvements.
Game AI is a very interesting and challenging field. Almost every system in the game affects the appearance of the AI and ultimately the AI needs to deliver the game-play experience the designers want. In Warframe, the AI is fundamentally split into two big layers.
In a lot of traditional action games, each level is hand crafted by designers. They will carefully create enemy encounters and will adjust which enemies spawn, where and when they spawn to create a good sense of difficulty and pacing for the player. Designers may also set up specific combat scenarios and staged fall-back points for the enemies to give the sense that they are responding intelligently as a group to the players pushing forward.
Warframe is a bit different. We want players to be able to play an endless supply of missions, so we procedurally create the layout of the map each time you launch a mission. This means that you should never have the exact same game-play experience every time you play a specific mission. We cannot rely on designers to hand craft an infinite number of mission variants! Instead, we have an AI system that monitors a game session and tries to react to the action to keep things interesting, challenging and fun. It's like having a designer watching you play the game and adjusting it on the fly! This first layer that controls the whole game-play experience, is what sets Warframe apart from most other games. It is also the system that goes completely unnoticed if it is doing it job well. The game has changed a lot since we opened the doors and will continue to evolve, so this system needs to be constantly changing and improving to respond to the growing game and player base.
The second layer of AI is what people usually associate with game AI: the enemies. This layer is comprised of an extremely complex mesh of systems, such as:
decision making,
navigation,
perceptions,
animations,
sounds
All these systems need to work together to make the AI seem intelligent and react how you would expect. You can have the most complicated, intelligent decision making system, but if the perceptions that feed in information are lacking, the AI will not be able to make smart decisions. The animations and sounds play an enormous part too. As far as the player is concerned, the AI is only as smart as he appears to be. Animations allow the player to see what sate the enemy is in, and sound allows the enemy to tell the player what he is thinking.
These are areas we are working to improve. We have a short video example to show some of the new Grineer behavior.
(Vidéo indisponible mise en privée)
Having different animations will allow you to see if an enemy is patrolling idly, or whether he is investigating a noise or hunting down an intruder. The animations also convey the body-language of the character. A soldier in a combat environment moves very differently to a civilian. With that in mind, we're working towards changing the animations that the different enemies use in game to better reflect their character.
However, this is no small task. Each enemy requires dozens of animations to handle all the situations that can arise in game. The simple act of getting into and out of cover requires almost 40 animations for all the different variations of cover type and approach and exit angles! These all need to be motion-captured and cleaned up and tweaked for use in the game. The transition animations are really short – about half a second to one second long, but they make a huge visual difference. It's really awesome to hook up these new animations as they come in from the animators and see how they change the look and feel of the enemies.
I hope we can show you more than this teaser soon and I also to tell you more about the AI systems in Warframe as we continue iterating, improving and adding.

non serieux, tu as une source stp ?
