Many of you have asked for it, and here it is: a massive status update post in regards to where we are with the porting of the 1.2 PC update to consoles. We will roughly sketch the progress of implementing the new content and mechanics and answer some questions that have popped up in the last weeks! Please note when responding to this post that we can not and will not elaborate on possible completion / release dates other than the “early 2014” that 505 Games has announced.

In general we are happy that the progress of porting this massive update to consoles is going smoothly, we have not encountered many problems or seemingly impossible-to-port content. First thing to mention (since we got a lot of questions about it) is that we will not be releasing any more intermediate partial 1.2 updates until the full update is done (no more “waves” of content). There are so many relations and dependencies between the various content in the update that this would simply overcomplicate the port process and delay the full release which we think is more important than some more teaser content. Second thing would probably be: “are we going to miss out on anything on consoles?”, and the answer is yes...you will not get the 10 additional inventory slots that were introduced on PC, but so far that is all.

General progress made in 2013:
- all new wall types (80) are added
- all new tile sets (106) are added
- mini map has been adjusted to display colors for new bricks, ores and walls
- new clouds are added
- Rain event is added
- About 50% of new recipes are added
--- new subcategories for recipes are added
- Torches and switches can now be placed on walls
- new moon variations have been added (and randomized)
- new hammer and pickaxe behaviors have been added (except half-tiles)
- Armor dye system has been implemented (code only, still requires interface redesign)
- Tile painting system has been implemented (still requires some work on paint tools mechanics)
- New sound effects are implemented
- Sun Eclipse Event has been added partially (about 80% complete)
- Dungeon redesign has been implemented
- Jungle Temple has been implemented
- Variations for doors, pots and chests have been implemented
- Lastly, about 400 new items were added including all banners, furniture that uses wood variations and vanity sets

- All World Generation changes have been adapted, meaning:
--- Pyramids will spawn in the desert biomes
--- Chance to get the Crimson instead of the Corruption
--- Bee hives will spawn in the underground Jungle biome
--- Cobweb and Gem Cave mini biomes are generated
--- Half-Tiles, Slopes and Random Growth (including Moss) are generated
--- Hell Houses are remodeled
- Tile paint system completed
- Armor dye system completed
- All Tree variations were added
- New liquids (incl Honey) were added
- Waterfalls are now implemented
- All new gore implemented
- All new (dust) particle effects implemented
- Flames now animate
- Queen Bee boss implemented
- Background animations are all implemented and more efficiently rewritten
- About 3/4ths of the new friendly NPCs (and their shops) have been implemented
- About 3/4ths of all new Enemy NPCs have been implemented
- Started work on implementing new hair types
- New item/recipe implementation is an on-going process

Plus we are incorporating the Halloween event (PC update 1.2.1.2.) in our big update as well:
- Halloween event trigger implemented
- Pumpkin Moon event implemented
- Halloween costumes were added

Some more info on the changes to the console-exclusive stuff:

Ocram:
First there is Ocram and his drops (and yes his hitbox bug has been fixed). I explained before we would make some changes to his pop item: it will use less adamantite (like half) and less souls to craft, making it easier to fight him multiple times without having to raid 5 worlds to do so. He will also drop more souls than before, so you won't need to kill him 50 times to craft all the gear.

Recipes:
All the recipes for the Dragon, Spectral and Titan armor are also adjusted slightly: they will require less Souls of Blight to craft, and in some cases also less "other" Souls (Might, Fright etc). Same for the Sparkly Wings, who will require *a lot* less Souls to craft. The weapon recipes will also be changed to use less Adamantite and only one of the high-tier weapons instead of two (except Sharanga which recipe is unchanged).

Enemies:
Lots of changes here, but the main change is this: they will drop loot, with a rare chance to get double loot! So Shadow Mummies will drop Dark Shards with a rare chance to get two in one kill, Spectral Mummies will drop Light Shards, Arch-Demon can drop the Demon Scythe, Dragon Skull can drop a Golden Key, Vampire Miner will drop the mining shirt / mining helmet etc.

Pets:
Following a suggestion right here on TO, our console-exclusive pet summon items will now also drop from enemies, hopefully giving everyone a better chance to find these especially the rarer ones. We tried to implement these so they make sense, so not all of the console-exclusive pet items will drop from console-exclusive enemies, for example: the Wolf Fang will drop of Werewolves (rare drop of course).

Lastly, Ocram *will* drop his own Boss Trophy and we are currently adding in banners for the console exclusive enemies. We will be adding the functionality that minimap data from previously visited worlds is stored locally and there are a bunch more of small improvements we are looking at (more on that later!).

news du 14/02/2014 au soir :

All right, I don't have such a massive status update as last time yet, no real specifics, but there are some things I'd like to address today to keep all you information-hungry-bastards in line ;)

1) How things are looking with getting stuff and not getting stuff

The lack of the 10-slots inventory was already mentioned before, I am glad to report there is only one other thing the 1.2 (or 1.2.1.2.) update for consoles will not have compared to the PC update: the coin gun. I hope that it is not a big deal to anyone, it didn't seem to be the most popular element of the update so I will admit I took the easy way out here. The problem with the coin gun is that we changed in the console version how coins are handled, they auto-stack and auto-convert to a higher denomination if you have 100 of one. With that system in place the Coin Gun used pretty much random ammo, there was no control over what coins are used.

2) Gravitation Potion change in 1.2

Much has been said about the way the Gravitation potion worked originally (flips character) and how it works after the 1.2 update (flips the world). Throughout the community it seems to be a 50-50 who prefers what, so we added an option in the settings to use the original functionality, or the 1.2 functionality.

3) Storing minimap data from visiting worlds

A highly requested feature, since lots of people were complaining that after visiting a world and discovering part of the map, it would be completely black again next time you joined that same world. After the update we will store minimap data locally so you will start with that map when you rejoin. Please note that this will mean that the actual world may have changed in the meantime and your map might not be an accurate reflection of that world. It will of course be updated when you "rediscover" the changed parts.

4) Banners banners banners banners

The console-exclusive mobs will have their unique collectible monster-banner, with the following exceptions:
Shadow Slime: like all slimes, will just drop the Slime Banner
Dragon Hornet: like all hornets, will just drop the Hornet Banner
Dragon Skull: has no banner drop, since the Cursed Skull has no banner drop either

All other mobs have their own banner, and Ocram has its own Boss Trophy (created by guest star Crowno)

5) Double storage size

Just to be overly complete: chests, piggy banks and safes *will* have their storage slots doubled.

That's it for now, I'll try to get some more screenies out and hopefully a 'normal' big status update early next week.

:hap:
